WEEKLY UPDATE - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2022
Hello MAST Families,
The short course season begins Monday, September 19 with the start of MAST practices. We are looking forward to having everyone back in the pool and to welcoming our new MAST Swimmers.
FIRST MAST MEET:
MAST will have our first meet the weekend of October 14 – 16. This meet is a home meet and we hope to swim as many MAST swimmers as are ready for a meet – even some who are not quite sure if they are ready.
The idea behind an early season meet is to get our swimmers accustomed to the swim meet experience in a low stress environment (our pool).
We will need a large volunteer group to help run this meet. You will be hearing more about volunteer positions very soon.
FAMILY MEMBERS WATCHING PRACTICE:
The first 2-4 weeks are going to feature a lot of technique work along with coaches getting to know the swimmers. We encourage parents to watch practice if they wish to, but please do not interact with your child – unless there is an emergency, of course – during practice.
The younger swimmers will naturally look to their parent(s) for approval or reassurance, but it is best in the long run that they pay attention to the coach on deck.
If you have any questions or concerns about how practice is going, simply ask to speak with the coach after practice. Please be patient, the first couple weeks can be pretty rough even for the more experienced swimmers.
TEAM SUITS:
If you have recently joined the team and did not get a team suit, please see one of the coaches after your child’s practice to obtain a voucher for the new team suit.
SwimVille will be moving their store to Kenwood, but not until after the new year. So, you will still need to make the trek to the store in Fort Thomas to get your suit. (The travel time is about 35 minutes from Milford if I-275 traffic cooperates).
MORNING PRACTICES FOR BLACK 2 & BLACK 3:
We will be starting “doubles” on October 24 for those swimmers in Black 2 & Black 3. Practice will run 6:00 – 7:15 / 7:30 on Monday & Wednesday mornings. (Practice end time depends upon a reasonable time to get ready for school.
These practices are highly recommended for those in Black 3 and optional for Black 2. If your swimmer chooses to attend morning practices, make it a commitment. Show up for every practice.
Morning practice (doubles) is not a substitution for evening practice… it is an addition to evening practice. If a swimmer’s attendance is inconsistent, I will recommend that they just focus on evening practice.
There will be weeks that we do not have morning practices so please keep current with the practice schedule.
It is my understanding that the building will not open until 6:00 am, so please be at the door ready to enter at 6:00 am. We will not have anyone waiting at the door for swimmers arriving late.
I recommend eating a light breakfast at least 30 minutes before practice and having more food for immediately after practice. There is a refrigerator available in the equipment room for keeping food cold if needed.
Two-a-days always require an adjustment period so please be patient as we work into this additional training.
