Weekly Update - Sunday, June 6

Monty Hopkins

Hello MAST Families,

Finally... after two years... a Long Course Swim Meet!  It was a very successful weekend for those who competed in the CAC Meet at Miami University this weekend.  The most important thing from a coaching perspective was that we got to see how MAST swimmers looked at this point of the season - this helps us know what we should work on to help our swimmers improve.  The most important aspect for the swimmers was the opportunity to race long course.  Everyone wants to go best times in every race but the reality is that doesn't happen.  However, every race is a building block to reach best times.  We learn a lot at meets and are already looking forward to Pau Hana.

SOSL Dual Meets - Every Tuesday starting June 15 (and ending with an extra Thursday meet on July 15) we will have a summer league dual meet as part of our Southern Ohio Swim League membership.  We expect every MAST swimmer to participate.  For the younger or less experienced swimmer these meets will offer a chance to learn more about racing and competing while having fun with friends.  For the older or more experienced swimmers we will treat these meets as "Training by Racing."

Black 2 & Black 3 - Starting this week we will add a 30 minute dryland session to the end of morning practice on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Please bring athletic shoes (no Croc's or sandals in dryland) and shorts for dryland.  We will start 5 minutes after finishing the swim portion of morning practice and everyone is expected to participate.

Ohio swimming has adjusted the qualifying procedure for the Ohio Long Course Championship meet that willallow more swimmers to participate.  I will publish details of the qualifying procedure along with how MAST will qualify swimmers later this week or, at the latest on the next Weekly Update.

Thank you for being members of MAST - See you at the pool.
