Weekly Update - Sunday, January 10, 2021

Monty Hopkins

Hello Everyone,

Four items for this update:

1) Home swim meet Saturday, January 16.

  • If you haven't signed up yet please check the meet information on the events page and get signed tonight.
  • The meet will include swimmers from OHYA and Mariemont.
  • 11 & Over --> 9:00 am Warm-up   10:00 Meet Begins
  • 10 & Under --> 12:30 pm Warm-up   1:30 Meet Begins
  • Spectators will not be permitted but we may still have volunteer sign-up opportunities for meet workers.
  • We need a volunteer for the position of "Covid Compliance" for each session - this person will supervise temperature checks (assisted by meet Marshalls) and encourage swimmer compliance with physical separation, mask wearing, etc.

2) Emily Wethington is joining the MAST coaching staff.

Please join me in welcoming Emily Wethington to MAST.  Emily is an experienced coach and was an accomplished swimmer in both high school, YMCA National finalist and NCAA Division 1 swimmer.  She has several years coaching experience with both Mason Manta Rays and the Anderson Barracudas.  Emily is also the head coach at Normandy Swim Club in the summer.  She will be working, primarily, with the Black 1 group.

3) Ohio Swimming LSC March Championships

Due to the situation with Covid-19 the Ohio Swimming Championships will be competed in a different format this year.  More information will be shared as it is released by the Ohio Age-Group Committee.

The key things to know at this time are:

  • The meet will be scheduled inside of the ten day window beginning March 4, 2021 - actual dates have not been determined.
  • The meet will be at each team's home facility with just that team and one or two others if the facility has capacity to host others.
  • No travel, no hotels, eat your good home cooking... but we hope that some spectators will be permitted by then.
  • The meet is a four day format but it can be competed in fewer days depending on pool availability.
  • Everyone who is registered in Ohio and USAS eligibile can compete.
  • Placing in final results will be divided into separate divisions (something like B, A, AAA) so that swimmers results are scored in an appropriate division and more swimmers have a chance to earn either a high place in their division or a jump into a higher division.
  • All events will be timed finals.
  • Relays will be scored separate from individual events.
